Bamburgh Castle – Dishwash & First Floor Kitchen Refurbishment

Monument was appointed to deliver a full refurbishment of the dishwash area and first‑floor kitchen at the historic Bamburgh Castle, upgrading both spaces to modern commercial standards while working within the constraints of a heritage environment. The project involved the careful removal of existing equipment, services, and finishes before rebuilding both rooms with durable, hygienic, and compliant materials. Walls were packed, sheeted with plywood, and finished with Saniclad PVC hygienic wall boards, complete with thermo‑formed corners where possible to create a seamless, easy‑clean surface. New hot, cold, and waste pipework was installed to suit the revised kitchen layouts, using copper pipework and crimp fittings for long‑term reliability. Existing floors were acid‑cleaned, primed, and screeded before being finished with Altro safety flooring, including coved upstands and hot‑welded joints for a fully sealed finish. Both areas received new 600 x 600 suspended ceilings with PVC‑coated tiles, improving light reflectance, hygiene, and service access. Once the fabric of the rooms was complete, Monument refitted all existing and new catering equipment in line with the updated layouts. Working within a live hospitality environment, the team coordinated all works around restricted noise windows and guest occupancy, ensuring minimal disruption while maintaining programme and quality.
